Two weeks in Brewster … a wonderful summer tradition.

We are halfway through our 2 week vacation in Brewster on Cape Cod. My husband has been coming here since he was 12; we’ve come every year since we married (20 years this September). We vacation with 2 other families; their mom owns the cottages we rent. They have extended family in Brewster so it’s one big party; lots of kids, lots of adults, walks on the beach and the flats, no TV, no phone, no computers (except for downloading photos), lots of reading and relaxing. A very special place for all of us.

Low tide goes out 1.5 miles, walking ‘the flats’ is a favorite activity.

Most nights we see amazing sunsets right from our screened in porch, perfect!

Two great Sundays

On Sunday June 5th my husband and I took Cooper for a great walk along the Sudbury River to Fairhaven Bay. A beautiful day and a beautiful walk. Today, Father’s Day, we took a nice walk at Simon Willard Woods and then spent most of the day outside relaxing, the weather is perfect! Happy Father’s Day!

Rain, Ogunquit and Cooper…

It was a rainy month of May! I like rainy days but I never think to take my camera with me on a rainy day. One day last week I wandered around our yard, I liked what I saw.

I was lucky enough to be invited up to a friend’s family home in Ogunquit Maine. The home was right on the Marginal Way; beautiful views, wonderful home, great friend.

I took my camera walking Coop at the local park where we meet up with lots of dogs/owners. Always fun to see him play with other dogs and a great chance for me to hear what’s going on around town.

After days of rain, the sun is shining!

The past week has been rainy, cloudy and dreary but the sun is finally shining today! We have all the doors open with a nice breeze coming in, it feels wonderful. I took some photos in my backyard this morning, took Cooper for a walk with his best friend Xena and took some photos of a friend’s garden. A great way to spend a sunny Saturday.

Lilac Sunday – Arnold Arboretum Boston

The perfect way to spend Mother’s Day, Lilac Sunday at the Arnold Arboretum. The Arboretum is 265 acres of beautiful land, walking paths, flowers and trees. It is in the Jamaica Plain and Roslindale sections of Boston, Massachusetts. Mother’s Day is is the one day you are allowed to picnic and what a party it was; lots of entertainment, lots of multi-generation families celebrating their Mothers, lots of good looking picnics! I wish a photo could capture the scent of the lilacs, truly amazing. We were there for over 4 hours; walking, talking, being entertained by the beautiful sights and smells of the Arnold Arboretum.
I highly recommend a visit, it is easily accessible via the MBTA Orange Line.

A wonderful place to be – Anna Maria Island April 2011

Have you heard of Anna Maria Island? It is an 8 mile long island 30 minutes north of Sarasota, 1 hour southwest of Tampa. This is our 3rd year vacationing on this little piece of paradise; my mom, sister and I get away together each year, a wonderful tradition. Instead of renting a car we rent bikes and use the free trolley if needed. We rent a home with a private pool and lounge all day at the pool or on the beautiful beach. Long bike rides exploring the island, meals out at one of the many dining spots, we are indeed happy!

A favorite place to hang out on the island. Notice all the bikes, the best way to get around!

Sunsets on the beach are wonderful, we go every evening to see the show!

April Fools’ Day

As of yesterday, March 31st, we still had some snow on the ground but we could also see big patches of grass, spring was in the air! We woke this morning to a snowy mess, Happy April Fools’ Day! But it was no joke, it really was snow and the road conditions were bad! It’s been a long winter, lots of snow for the Boston area but I still find it beautiful. I’m off to Florida tomorrow for 10 days, I hope to post some pretty beach photos.

Will we ever open our pool this season??

The Rocky Coast of New England

My husband and I spent a wonderful weekend in Little Compton, Rhode Island. It was 65 degrees on Friday and in the high 40’s low 50’s both Saturday and Sunday, a great weekend away. We had terrific meals at Nick’s on Broadway in Providence RI, Fluke in Newport RI and Cafe Assisi in Wrentham MA.

I took this photo from our private cupola above our room, we loved hanging out up there!

Thoughts of Summer…

I joined my husband and son on Part 2 of the College visits this past week but instead of 75 degree North Carolina weather, I got to experience a blizzard in Vermont! What was supposed to be a 3.5 hour ride home turned into a 6 hour drive in blizzard conditions. It was no surprise that when I woke to more snow this morning my first thought was of summer! I looked through my photos for some favorite summer shots, all taken in Brewster Cape Cod where we vacation every summer with friends. It warmed me up to look at them, I hope you enjoy them too.

25 degrees vs. 75 degrees – Mattison Field

As I was walking Cooper in 25 degree weather today, my husband and 16 year old son were enjoying 75 degree weather in North Carolina while touring colleges! Yes, I was a little jealous but the 40+ acre conservation land of Mattison field was quiet and beautiful on this snowy cold day.
